For those that know anything about Ed and Lorraine Warren, you know that they are the real deal. This book, which was made into a horrible, less than thrilling TV-Movie, is truly amazing, fearful, terrorizing, scary, intriguing.... and more. I first read this book when I was in high school and I had nightmares for weeks. Since then, I've enjoyed all the account the Warrens have provided on their website, and hope to still enjoy more information Lorraine may provide (Ed passed this past year).

If you are interested in the paranormal, hauntings or the supernatural, this book is an incredible read! Be warned, it will give you goosebumps and you will be scared! At least, any normal person would be! If you are interested in learning as much as you can about these topics, you really SHOULD read the book!

This book was very fast paced and very scary - this book is not meant for the faint of heart - I have read many true paranormal books and this is at the top of my list for true hauntings. The Smurl family had to endure these hauntings during a time when no one wanted to believe in ghosts and hauntings - the paranormal is more prevalent in this day and age then it was 20 years ago - however, the help from the Warrens is what finally set them on the right track and thankfully the Warrens were well known at that time in the paranormal community - if it hadn't been for them helping this family, it could have been much, much worse for this family - this definitely is a five star read and anyone who loves true paranormal will like this book - keep the lights on while reading this book!
I remember the movie from when I was a kid and how genuinely creepy it was. I was worried I wouldn’t like this due to the sometimes interview or journalistic style of writing, but I found those parts to be like watching a documentary about it on TV, which have intrigued me since I was little. It was neat to compare what I remembered from the film with the real life accounts in the book as well as get more insight from the Warrens. I plan on purchasing more in this series.
If your into supernatural haunting stories, you will not be disapointed here!

Admittedly, the book does start out fairly slow, ordinary(for paranormal standards) and the writing competent but somewhat elementary. But about a third of the way through, things really take off and I mean REALLY take off. I don't want to spoil anything but if your a fan of the Warren's this is one for the shelf.

Fortunately, as the case escalates in extremity the writing also increases in quality, with the author really finding his stride half way through the book. The quality of ghost-writing here is a breath of fresh air in a genre that has recently, for better or worse, been flooded with non-professional self published stories.

-Presence of Incubi/Succubi
-Frequent and extreme apparitions
-The Camping chapters...
-Interesting account of the family going "public" with their haunting

4 1/2 STARS, just shy of 5 because of the previously mentioned first third of the book, other than that, a fantastic and wholly recommended book for the paranormal enthusiast!
I love reading the case files of Ed & Lorraine Warren! The first one I read was "The Demonologist", which I had years ago when I was in school. I was fascinated with the tales in there and it was where I was first introduced to "Annabelle."

These new editions are much better than the versions I had in the past, with cleaner print, easier on the eyes. Several have photos that are much more clear than some of the previous editions.

I am so glad these books are back in print, and in a pleasant, matching collection. Be sure to get all of them, and be ready for many chilling nights reading the spooky stories that will give you lots of restless sleep. )
Sometimes, my wife asks how I can read scary books just before going to sleep. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember and it’s never bothered me. Like most people, I read for pleasure. But as a writer, I also read for understanding. Usually, when I read books about the supernatural, I intellectualize everything down to the story, writing style, and authenticity of the characters. I may have to revisit that approach.

THE HAUNTED is the true story of the Smurl family, devout Catholics living in Pennsylvania who find themselves being infested with a demon and other vengeful spirits. Based on everything I’ve read so far about demons, this situation can occur when someone invites the demonic into their home through the use of Ouija boards, spells, or cursed objects like the Annabelle doll. Not so with the Smurls. This family did none of those things, yet the demonic entered their lives and plagued them for years, terrorizing individual family members—and even the neighbors.

Despite everything that happens, the Smurl family remains rooted in their faith. It’s the main reason they were able to manage for so long, undergoing multiple exorcisms and hordes of tourists wanting a glimpse of “the dark side.” As for me, I am comfortable in my faith and have always believed the demonic will leave me alone so long as I don’t seek it out. After reading THE HAUNTED, I’m not so sure anymore.
