Wicked Charms Lizzy Diesel Janet Evanovich Phoef Sutton Books
I was happy to have the opportunity to review an ARC of this long-awaited follow-up to Wicked Appetite and Wicked Business. Janet Evanovich fans should appreciate the Lizzy and Diesel novels, since they use the same basic formula used in the Stephanie Plum series. Ordinary young woman (this one has special "powers"), prone to mishaps and minor disasters, hangs out with mysterious hunk and the two embark on a series of slapstick comical adventures.Like the two previous books, Wicked Charms takes place in Massachusetts - much of it in Salem, which lends itself nicely to the magical aspect of the book. It also gives the authors some opportunity to add some seafaring-type escapades. While touring a local pirate's museum, Lizzy Tucker knocks over a "prop" skeleton and uncovers the actual mummified remains of legendary pirate, Peg Leg Dazzle. From there they learn of Peg Leg's famous hidden treasure. Lizzy and Diesel are off to follow the clues and discover the coins, gold, silver, gems and famous Stone of Avarice. With the help of Lizzy's friends, Glo, Clara and Josh, they battle the villainous Martin Ammon, who may or may not be a demon.
Wicked Charms is like most other Janet Evanovich novels. It follows a formula that works. Either you're a fan or you're not and I'm a fan. Ms. Evanovich's books aren't meant to be literal true life accounts - they're written as tongue-in-cheek, entertaining fun. Wicked Charms delivers that. I would recommend Wicked Charms if you're looking for an easy, breezy, silly read.

Wicked Charms Lizzy Diesel Janet Evanovich Phoef Sutton Books Reviews
I'd almost decided that there weren't going to be any more Lizzy and Diesel books so I was really happy a few months back when Wicked Charms was announced. I downloaded it to my first thing the morning of June 23.
I've never read a Janet Evanovich book I didn't like, and this was no exception. I like paranormal books and there is enough of the otherworldly here to make it interesting. I approached this one like I did the first two, suspending my disbelief and wading right in. But it somehow didn't have quite the same flavor of the two previous books.
Perhaps the addition of Mr. Sutton as co-author can account to some extent for the change in perception. (I actually thought Mr. Sutton was Ms. Sutton until I saw his picture; the name seems non gender-specific.) This isn't necessarily BAD, it's just different.
I was disappointed that Cat 7143 and Carl weren't as much in evidence in this book. I love them both. A few reviewers said they found Carl's frequent "Eeeps" annoying, but what else is a monkey going to say? I hope they both will be more in evidence in future books. And Hatchet somehow didn't come across as quite as colorful a character as he was in the first two volumes.
AND are we actually developing a Ranger-Morelli situation between Wulf and Diesel? This just doesn't seem right; I figured that at the end of book seven Diesel and Lizzy would figure they'd saved the world so to hell with it and they'd have at it, let the chips fall where they may, and Wulf would go on about the business of being the consummate bad boy.
I'm still looking forward to the next installment. We have Envy, Pride, Wrath, and Sloth yet to go - I'm particularly curious to see what they will do with Sloth. I just hope that we won't have to wait as long for installment four as we did for installment three.
I have read ALL of this author's books and this is the first one I'd like to return for a refund. After reading 34% of it, I am done. I look forward to some silly moments in her books that cause chuckles and some seriously funny moments that cause me to laugh so loud that I look around to see if I've disturbed anyone. The previous book in this series was so much better. Sorry Janet.
Lizzy, Diesel, Clara, Glo, Nergal (the local coroner), Carl the monkey and the Cat are still searching for the remaining Saligia Stones. A long dead pirate named Palgrave Bellows wrote a diary, drew a map and stated he found a great treasure and buried it off the coast of Maine. A very wealthy man, a Mr. Martin Ammon is in love with Lizzy' s cup cakes and signs her to a contract promoting her cup cakes, cookies, etc. Lizzy and Diesel discover Ammon is after one of the Saligia Stones. The craziness, nuttiness, dangerous situations and OMG' s make this third book a great read. I hope Janet Evanovich writes book four in this series.
I am an avid Evanovich reader, but you can save your money on this one. I am a huge fan of the Lizzy and Diesel series, but her usual wit and talent are missing. So many inconsistencies have me wondering if she even wrote ANY of this one. She definitely needs to fire Phoef Sutton. Evanovich's style is unmistakable, and it is missing here. I want my money back, and am so disappointed that I am unsure whether I will continue to support her books.
A big disappointment! I am a huge "Wicked" fan and was so excited that a new book was written. Although the story line is good and the characters are all intact, it became immediately apparent that Janet Evanovich did not write this book and Phoef Sutton did. The character's personalities changed and the lighthearted comedy that is synonymous with each Evanovich book is missing. I am sorry that I purchased the book and would have just checked it out from the library as I doubt that I will go back and re-read the book. I hope that when the next "Wicked" book comes out, Janet Evanovich actually stays true to the characters in the first two books and doesn't use Phoef as her writer.
